So much has happened in the past year, and yet I’ve posted nothing!! How could this be? Clearly Blind-Lead needs a new PR officer — please do inquire if interested!!! Okay, to begin with, we’ve had two major moves. First, we moved the Blind-Lead workshop from the premises of WORTH Trust
to the campus of the Vellore Institute of Technology
(VIT University). Second, I myself relocated from Cambridge, MA (USA) to Vellore, TN (India). The two moves are closely intertwined, but the details are convoluted and easily colored by subjective bias. Suffice it to say that, as of August 2012, VIT had agreed to provide an accessible space where the Blind-Lead workers could immediately continue their construction activities. At the same time, I took a faculty appointment at VIT, where I’ve started a Centre for Innovation & Development (aka InnoCentre)
InnoCentre Logo, designed by InnoCentre students!
While the blind workers and I were InnoCentre’s first occupants, we were not alone for long. In January 2013, VIT’s undergraduate population returned from winter break, and we began reorganizing team membership and establishing a whole slew of new projects. At present, we have about 25 active “core projects”, ranging in focus from assistive technologies to alternative energy to environmental/public health.
